Core needle biopsy is a test that involves taking pieces of tissue for evaluation under a microscope. As a result, it is possible to collect more material for histopathological examination.<\/p>\n

Core needle biopsy is most often performed when cancerous lesions are suspected, for example in the breast, thyroid gland or lymph nodes. This test allows to confirm or rule out the presence of cancer cells, as well as to determine the type of cancer. Therefore, it is crucial in the diagnostic process of many oncological diseases.<\/p>\n

The core needle biopsy procedure is performed under local anesthesia. A biopsy needle is inserted under ultrasound or CT guidance to take a representative fragment of the suspicious lesion. The procedure itself usually takes several minutes and may be associated with minor pain and bleeding after the biopsy.<\/p>\n

The results of histopathological examination of tissue collected during core needle biopsy are available after a few days. They make it possible to verify the initial diagnosis of the disease and to decide on further diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.<\/p>\n

The most common indications for core needle biopsy are:<\/p>\n

  • suspicion of cancer (e.g. breast cancer, thyroid cancer) based on the result of an imaging test<\/li>\n
  • control of the course of treatment of neoplastic lesions<\/li>\n
  • explanation of the causes of swollen lymph nodes<\/li>\n
  • differentiation of benign and malignant lesions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Core needle biopsy is recommended in cases where a neoplastic lesion is suspected or when the lesion has an unclear origin. It is a key diagnostic element in the evaluation of lumps in the breast, liver, lungs, thyroid, and other organs.<\/p>\n
