Breast ultrasound Cracow

Breast ultrasound examination - prevention and early detection of cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. Regular breast ultrasound examination allows to detect tumors at an early stage, which significantly affects the effectiveness of treatment.

Breast ultrasound is one of the imaging tests, as it is carried out not only when there is a specific reason for it (e.g. a lump that can be felt under the fingers), but also prophylactically.

Unfortunately, there are still too few women in Poland who appreciate the importance of regular ultrasound, even though it is one of the most effective tools in the fight against breast cancer.

The ailments that a woman should pay attention to and thus turn to a doctor who will consider the need for an ultrasound examination are:

  • constant and severe breast pain,
  • changes in the size and/or shape of the breasts,
  • skin lesions – redness, swelling, thickening of the skin,
  • retraction of a nipple or skin or the so-called symptom of orange peel skin.

The course of breast ultrasound is completely painless. It is a non-invasive examination during which the patient lies down and her hands are folded to expose the gland of the breast lymph nodes. The doctor applies a special gel to the skin on the breasts and in the surrounding area, which improves the transmission of ultrasound, as well as facilitates the movement of the head. Only then does he place the ultrasound probe on the body.

When is it a good idea to perform a breast ultrasound?

We recommend regular breast ultrasound check-ups once a year for every woman over 40. years of age. Ultrasound helps detect possible changes or abnormalities in the breasts at an early stage, increasing the chance of a complete cure if the disease is detected.

Ultrasound examination is also recommended in the case of palpable changes in the breasts, such as lumps, prolonged pain, skin or nipple pulling, as well as when there is an unusual discharge from the nipple. Ultrasound will help to investigate the nature of these disturbing symptoms.

Women at increased risk of breast cancer, e.g. with a genetic history, are recommended to undergo breast ultrasound twice a year.

Breast ultrasound examination takes only about 15-20 minutes and is completely painless, non-invasive and safe. It allows you to easily and quickly rule out or confirm possible lesions.
